Proposal For a Radical Change

Every semester students go through the process of being kicked out of the University due to underachievement on the academic side. How might we fix this problem? My goal is to raise awareness for the Academic Skills department. Academic Skills is a resource free to all students. By raising awareness for Academic Skills I hope to allow students the opportunity to improve there academics and continue their college experience. Need help with math, science, or even writing a paper? Look no further than Academic Skills...

  1. This defiantly has potential. I see a lot of my friends drop out of classes because they just cant comprehend the information. How do you plan on getting the information out there? Do you think that students will actually attend once they know the location and times? Also I know that there are SI instructors that sit in on the classes. I am looking into being a SI instructor in Biology next semester. Are there any alternatives to Academic Skills? Just some suggestions for your proposal.

  2. I know that a lot of people are embarrassed to go to academic skills. Maybe you could make pamphlets with times and places, but also encourage people not to be embarrassed. We're in college to learn, not to care if others think we're dumb. Obviously, no one here is dumb. We've made it this far right?
I think this is a great idea. :)

  3. I think this is an awesome idea because I myself would use Academic Skills but I have no idea where it is located and the times that it is open. This is great resource that the university uses but I do not believe that many people take advantage of this. A question that I have about this program is the hours of operation because many people have jobs and have to work around their class schedule and maybe if the Academic Skills was open late at night more people would be able to use it. This could be something that you try to persuade the university to change or make the hours of operation longer.

  4. Mr. McCarty,
This is an excellent idea. I have thought about using the Academic Skills Department for help on some of my work, but I am not sure where it is or what its hours are. I am sure that this could be great help to many college students and could greatly reduce the dropout rate of the university. This is an excellent idea. Great job.
